Field hockey is a winter sport code, played during the second and third term, by both boys and girls from U/7 to U/14. There are at least three teams per age group with two qualified and experienced coaches to bring out the best in every player. Two practices per week prepare players well for league matches which are played every Thursday afternoon against all other schools in the Helderberg basin.
A coaching clinic is held at the beginning of every season, hosted at Beaumont by top outside coaches, to motivate players for the season and raise the level of hockey.
All teams take part in at least one Saturday tournament per term, as well as two Interschools days against De Hoop and Kenridge. Our U/14 teams take part in additional tournaments, such as The Western Province Top 12 and The Ball Tournament. Many matches are also played against visiting touring sides.
All A-teams from U/10 to U/14 tour to Oudthoorn during the third term and the U/14A sides have an additional tour to the Eastern Cape.
Top U/14 players take part in WP and Helderberg Zonal trials and Beaumont are proud to say that we have had many representatives in both these teams in the past.
U/12 and U/14 players play Indoor hockey during first and fourth term. Beaumont is a force to be reckoned with on the court and both boys and girls have won their leagues on numerous occasions.
Couches at Beaumont all agree with Bum Phillips who said: “Winning is half of it. Having fun is the other half”
